The Rhode Island Black Film Festival (RIBFF) launched Beyond the Lens Academy in Spring of 2022. After months of planning in partnership with Johnson & Wales University College of Arts & Sciences the third cohort of Junior and Senior high school students from the Jackie Walsh School of Performing Arts, the Paul Cuffee Senior high school and the Paul Crowley – MET schools participated in the two day program hosted by the URI College of Arts & Sciences Film Program in conjunction with the Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
We are expecting great things from you and here to help you achieve them. We welcomed our first class in April 2023. Beyond the Lens Academy planning committee is led by Professor Christopher West, PhD, Johnson & Wales University, Filmmaker Don Mays and Videographer and Photographer Edwin Rijo and Alberto Genao, Genao Films.
