BEYOND THE LENS ACADEMY FOR
HIGH SCHOOL STUDETNS

Our first class of Beyond the Lens Academy representing film and media programs high schools across the state.  \Students from Classical High School, Providence Career & Technical Academy, LaSalle Academy, Newport Vocational and Portsmouth High School Rhode Island and regional film industry professionals share their experiences and offer hands on experience to the 20 students selected to participate in the two day program. Thanks to our sponsors the program is offered free. Rhode Island Office of Film & Television, local union, IATSE local union, Tikun Olam production lend their expertise and opportunities to intern and how to get on the career track to the Film industry.  Hosted by Johnson & Wales University College of Arts & Sciences. Beyond the Lens Academy cohort is led by RIBFF Board member Christopher Westgate, Professor at the College of Arts & Studies< Johnson & Wales University. to learn the careers and areas of study as a film major. The Rhode Island Black Film Festival congratulates our inaugural class of students. The Rhode Island Black Film Festival (RIBFF) launched Beyond the Lens Academy in Spring of 2022. 


 BEYOND THE LENS ACADEMY SCHEDULE FOR APRIL 9 and 10 

We are expecting great things from you and here to help you achieve them. We welcomed our first class in April 2023. Beyond the Lens Academy planning committee is led by Professor Christopher West, PhD, Johnson & Wales University, Filmmaker Don Mays and Videographer and Photographer Edwin Rijo and Alberto Genao, Genao Films.
